New Place // Coyote Buttes, Arizona
Coyote Buttes is a section of the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), spanning south-central Utah and north-central Arizona. This remote region was unknown until the 1990’s and is now a popular destination for one crazy sci-fi rock sandstone formation know as “The Wave”.
The Wave’s overwhelming popularity caused the BLM to limit foot traffic to 20 people per day, so while the hike itself is fairly straightforward (2.6 Miles) each way, getting the permit can be tricky. However, even if you don’t get a permit for The Wave there is plenty of amazing hiking, rafting, ATV and exploring to do around the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs area. Would love any feedback or pictures from anyone who has been out that way.
Cool Thing // Kishu Charcoal
Recently, I have been trying to filter all the water I buy from the store. However, I use a 3-gallon jug and the Brita Filter System is not something I want to start spending money on. I would have to buy the Pitcher and replace the plastic filters every month. No thanks! Solution?
Kishu Charcoal is activated charcoal which the Japanese have used for thousands of years to purify their drinking water. Kishu Charcoal is brought to life from sustainably harvested oak branches slowly carbonized to 1000 degrees. After a number of days, a beautiful and glass-like activated charcoal emerges. You can buy different size pieces and they last up to four months. Use them in your water bottles, pitchers, or in my case the 3-gallon jug.
Best Self // Alkaline Diet
First off, let's make sure were both on the same page. Alkalizing the body simply put is the term used to describe the science of balancing the over-acidification of the body. The scale used to measure if your body is more acidic or alkaline is called the PH (Potential Hydrogen) scale which ranges from 0-14. The ideal range is between 7.36-7.44. You can buy test strips to see where your body's current level is at.
There are many benefits to having a more Alkaline body from cancer prevention, to staving off arthritis, more healthy skin and nails, more restful sleep, higher energy levels, and a multitude of more.
Here are a couple tips for achieving this:
- Eat more leafy greens (kale, spinach, swiss chard)
- Drink Lemon Water (glass of water with fresh squeezed lemon)
- Eat more Cruciferous Vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts)
- Apple Cider Vinegar (add 1 tsp of ACV to 2-4ounces of water daily)
- Stay away from meats, cheeses, and fast food of any kind
If you want to experience life at a higher level and optimize your day I definitely recommend testing out a more alkaline diet. I'll keep you posted on the changes I feel personally and please share any of your own experiences with this type of diet.
