New Place // Burney Falls Memorial State Park

Burney Falls Memorial State Park is definitely one of the most beautiful destinations in California. Located in the Cascade Mountain Range this State Park features excellent hiking, camping, boating and of course the main attraction Burney Falls.

Burney Falls is a monstrous 129-foot high waterfall which has 100 million gallons of water a day flowing over its beautiful cliffs. Not surprisingly 26th President Teddy Roosevelt called it “the eighth wonder of the world.” I have had the good fortune of being able to see this waterfall in person. The Waterfall itself was absolutely breathtaking and so loud you could barely hear yourself talk. But because my visit was during winter, its was cold and very wet at our campsite. Best time to go is April thru October so I am looking forward to checking it out during the summer. Campsites fill up quickly so make your reservations a couple months in advance if you are wanting to camp. Also, The Pacific Crest Trail passes through the park which is pretty special as well.

Cool Thing // Rich Roll Podcast

This week’s cool thing is a little different. I have been listening to podcasts for almost two years now, and RRP is one that I just have to share. If you are into any kind of mindful practice (yoga, meditation, etc), an endurance athlete, adventurer, nutritionist, a person looking for something more in this world then you must listen to this podcast. It’s informative on a number of different subjects with real talk, and real people who have done things that will inspire you to take an inventory of your life and ask some tough questions in the hopes of becoming your BEST SELF. I would recommend starting with the David Goggins interview.

Best Self // The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

There are not many books that can alter your perspective on life in such a way that in fact they actually change your life. The Four Agreements is one of those books that will change your life on a deep emotional level and keep you engaged on every page. It’s very simple to understand and there are only four principles to follow that will create more truth and understanding in your life.

  1. Be Impeccable with your word
  2. Don’t take anything personally
  3. Don’t make assumptions
  4. Always do your best

Easy right?

“If others tell us something we make assumptions, and if they don't tell us something we make assumptions to fulfill our need to know and to replace the need to communicate. Even if we hear something and we don't understand we make assumptions about what it means and then believe the assumptions. We make all sorts of assumptions because we don't have the courage to ask questions.”

Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

Here is a link to some more quotes. It’s definitely helped me gain a new understanding about myself and help me to cultivate more meaningful relationships in my life. Again, it’s simple but practiced daily can change your life.

Keep Moving!
Michael
