New Place // Channel Islands National Park
Five Islands off the coast of Ventura, California make up Channel Islands National Park. Accessible only by boat or plane, the only thing you will find besides peace and quiet is wildlife. The closest Island to the mainland is Anacapa, which is just an hour-long boat ride while San Miguel, the farthest, is about 3.5 hours away. The other islands, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, and Santa Barbara are scattered in between. You can plan a one-day visit or camp overnight. There is no cell service, amenities, and you must pack in and out all your food, water and garbage. Each of the islands offers a unique experience so I highly recommend doing a lot of research before choosing. But between whale sightings, snorkeling, cave kayaking, and breathtaking views, you can’t really go wrong. I highly recommend checking out this site, which provides a great overview as well as info on each island. I also found this article from a couple who have visited a few times to have some great tips for what to do and what to pack.
Cool Thing // The Outbound Collective
I recently joined The Outbound Collective after I stumbled across the site looking for summer camping trip inspiration. I highly recommend checking out the website or downloading the app for your phone. It’s basically like an Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest all in one but geared toward outdoor enthusiasts. Members create profiles with Stories and Adventures, which you can then follow and save to your own profile. By setting up your own profile you choose your interests such as climbing, backpacking, canoeing, etc and your feed will be populated with what you want to see. If you want to contribute your own Stories or Adventures for others to follow you can do that too. From my brief use of the site, it seems like a great way to connect with people who love the outdoors in a real and authentic way. Hoping to get my profile up and running soon and will let you know when I do!
Best Self // Golden Milk
Turmeric, typically bought as a root or spice has been used for thousands of years in ancient medicines has some serious health benefits. From boosting brain function, fighting inflammation, and even cancer prevention, get a full run-down of the power of turmeric here. My favorite way to get my turmeric fix is Golden Milk aka Turmeric Tea. Drinking it before bed is a great way wind down and let the magic happen as you sleep. Turmeric can have a strong flavor but a little milk and honey tones down the spice. Check out these recipes for Golden Milk and give your system a boost.
