On the eastern side of the Sierras in California's Mammoth Lakes region lies Wild Willy's Hot Springs. Just a convenient halfway point for us to stop for the night, turned out to be one of the most magical places we had ever camped.
There is nothing glamorous about it. After turning off the main road, passing over a few cattle guards, you reach the parking lot where a long boardwalk leads down to the springs. It's BLM land so you can camp for free up to two weeks, which also means there are not any facilities (don't forget your trowel and TP!). What you will find is peace, quiet, amazing views and awesome people on awesome adventures like Biscuit, pictured below.
