Low impact and surprisingly easy to get the hang of it, SUP is accessible to all ages and abilities. Stand up paddle is a great cross training activity for athletes or a relaxing way to enjoy the water from a different perspective.

How to stand up on your Paddle Board
- Start by placing the board in calm water in water just deep enough so fins are not dragging on the bottom.
- Guide your board out into the water nose (tip of board) first.
- Hold the rails (sides) of the board with the paddle lying perpendicular across the top.
- Push off the shore and place one knee and then the other on the board as its gliding out. You can even take a couple strokes on your knees if it feels more comfortable.
- Replace your knees with your feet one side at a time.
- Engage your core and stand up bringing the paddle with you. The board is more stable as it’s moving across the water!
How To Hold Your Paddle
- Keep the blade of paddle angled away from you and not facing you like a spoon.
- Grip the paddle with one hand on the grip (top of paddle) and one hand on the shaft. (When paddling on the right, your left hand is on top and when on the left the right hand is on the top)
The SUP Stance
- Keep your Legs Parallel shoulder width apart and facing forward. Resist the urge to turn sideways like a surfboard.
- Keep a slight bend in your knees.
- Look out towards the horizon and not at your feet.
- The board should feel stable under your feet. Inch your feet around until you have found a comfortable position and the board feels stable beneath you.
- Keep your arms straight and think about the movement coming from your core instead of your arms.
- Push your top hand forward as your bottom hand pulls back.
- Only dip the blade just under the surface of the water.
- Draw the blade back only as far as your ankle then starting again.
- 4-5 Stokes per side and switch!
